User Guid

While on my study abroad trip in Scandinavia, I learned about minimalist design as well as how to push the limits of a chair.
I was very inspired by architecture and bent plywood.
This chair is composed of Maple legs that are removable, a plywood seat as well as a removable leather back.

Process
Ideation

After sketches I worked with 1/5 models to figures out the design that made the most sense.

Final Model

During my build I encountered a problem. There was no lathes there and this was how dowels were turned, unfortunately the radius of my mold was too wide.

Initially my instructor told me to do the process by hand, but this was way to time consuming and any mess up would result in the seat.

I then asked if i could modify their Jig so that mine would fit, the instructors agreed and it was proven to be a success!

The mold had to be hammered out.

The missing piece was then made the same way and cut then glued in place

Drilling of the holes was one of the most challenging parts of making this chair. I had to make two jigs to match the angles of the legs and then drill each hole by hand.

Once the frame was completed I cut out the leather back, stitched it and then slipped it on.
